In 1988 Walter and Doris Thoms, our grandparents, moved to SE Williamson County from the Texas Panhandle. They purchased 44 acres and continued raising cattle as they had since the 1970s. The move to central Texas allowed them to finish out their years of retirement in a warmer climate; giving Walter the time to focus on raising cattle, hound dogs, chickens and homing pigeons. They hoped that future generations of the family would continue the tradition.

Alston Thoms, our father, took over the Cow Camp after Walter died in 2016. He had plans to retire on the little ranch. For years we helped our father maintain the land. As he grew older, we picked up more of the daily chores. Our father died in 2021 before he had the chance to enjoy his retirement. As Walter had hoped, we inherited this little gem of a ranch. We plan to pass it on to our children down the road.

Our children have grown up at the Cow Camp. It has been an anchor for our families. Countless birthdays, holiday dinners, and family gatherings have been spent at the ranch. The Cow Camp is a special place for our family. We are glad to share the meat raised here.
We keep our personal freezers stocked with beef from our land. We know exactly what has gone into the beef, just the grass we grow. - John and Eugene Thoms |

Plan ahead, once a half or whole cow is ordered it can take awhile to get in line at the slaughter house.
After drop off for slaughter, it'll be 10-14 days before the beef is ready. |
